New feature — upload your photo as your avatar

We aim to please, a few of you asked if you could use a photograph as your avatar image. So yes, you can.

We're launching a new social based feature soon, and a nice profile pic will sit very well in it.

Stay tuned. Don't turn the page. What ever the correct metaphor is.

New feature — completed swaps

Simple and obvious. When making an app or social media platform there is a balance between the feature set and just plain old getting it out.

So we launched without seeing completed swaps, well, because they weren't any. But now we're up and running we thought it was about time to add it. So we did.

See those you have swapped books with previously, including the ones you or they declined. Handy if you didn't follow someone and you want to message them, or see their current selection of books.

Enhanced feature — The books in ‘I'm this list’ can now have descriptive text.

I'm this list is your chance to describe your personality in ten books. If you want. Or perhaps ten favourites authors. Or ten really really cool covers.

It's an introduction to yourself.

It has a useful purpose as well. Bookpo.st uses this as part of its matching pattern, as well as the books you post to swap.

If you haven't filled it in, give it a go, it can connect you to even more readers with similar taste, offering better recommendations.

Just in case you didn’t realise, the books that come up when you view ‘Shared tastes’ on the home page are recommendations generated from this list and the books you offer up for exchange.

New feature — Notifications

We had a few requests for this one, and should be a great help to those of you who aren't married to your email — essential messages like swap offers, and needing to post a book now show as notification alerts on the home page.

Click the notification and get taken to the relevant page. Simple.

P.S. They're sticky. If you click the alert but don't carry out the action, picking a book to swap for instance, the alert will pop back back again next time you visit.

New feature — filter books from only people you follow

Today's release of bookpo.st version 1.4 adds five enhancements.

You can filter books by people you follow.

You could already filter by shared taste (their books match your books in some way), popularity, newly added, those in your country, and now members you follow (whether your tastes match or not).

That about covers all that needs to said on the subject. But if you want more detail, here's the intricate workings. Follow your friends, or people you've swapped books with, or members who have just the best possible taste. Then use the 'I'm following' option when filtering books to swap.

New feature — emails when someone you swapped with adds a book.

This is the feature you wanted in our last what-shall-we-do-next vote. So we did it. When a member you have already swapped books with adds a new title, we send you an email telling you what they've posted. Because you're bound to like it.
